Sunday Plowshare

Postby John Fritsche » Sat Mar 14, 2009 6:18 pm

Had fun today (Sat.) at Cayucos. Good for PGs until about noon; then it was blown-out for them, but great for HG the rest of the day. Tomorrow (Sunday) Matt and I are giving Plowshare a try, meeting at 166 and Sierra Madre at 8:30. Anyone wants to join us, give me a buzz before 10PM tonight. We have no driver, but I'm willing to skip the XC part and chase anybody else who heads east. 733-4706.

John, let us know how it turned out. Ben and myself and maybe a few others want to go out there. I'd like some more heating so that we'd be sure of a good flying day. I haven't gone when it's been like this so I'm interested on hearing your report.

John, I don't know my schedule tomorrow. I saw that it was supposed to warm up a bit tomorrow so I would think that would be good. I'll call you.

OK, here's the report: SUCKED FOR US! We got there early and finally gave up at 2:00. Southside's Twitter reports and the Branch Mtn. station readings from the past two days made us think it could work for us today...wrong! It was ENE 10-20 and gusty the whole time. Plowshare is the closest site to both Matt and me, so whenever people who DO have a clue about the place are heading there, we'd love to get clued in ourselves (we're relatively new to this area). Call me! For the most part we can only fly weekends (until June...I'm a teacher :-)), but I can play sick once in a while during the week if you're sure that it's going to be awesome. If we had been skunked by a tailwind instead of an teaser headwind, we would have left for Midway, which is probably just shutting down as I write this (5:30). That's a site I know very well, but it's another hour beyond Plowshare.

John,

Plowshare is a very tricky place. I tried to call you in the a:m but nobody picked up. Plowshare has a window of months in the spring and fall and it is just a little early, at least for me, to predict accurately what's going on. It really goes in daily cycles as well and whether it's the first day of a warm up or the last day before a cool down is very important. Remember that the cooler it is there the better Santa Barbara is and the better Cayucus is as well I would imagine, deeper marine layer more coastal wind. I'll keep you in the loop when we think it'll be a good day. Tony DG
